Friends of Fonde Park Community Railroad Noise Monitoring Program
Friends of Fonde Park is launching a noise monitoring program as part of its commitment to environmental justice and the responsible stewardship of public spaces in the community. We are actively seeking dedicated community members and organizations to collaborate in this vital initiative.
Program Overview
Our mission, guided by the principle of "Recreation as Civic Engagement," extends to advocating for a healthy and peaceful environment for all park users and residents of Super Neighborhood 69 and beyond. The noise monitoring program aims to:
Gather data on existing noise levels within and around Fonde Park.
Identify potential sources of excessive noise that may impact the community's quality of life.
Use this data for informed advocacy with local government and regulatory bodies.
Empower residents by involving them directly in the monitoring and reporting process.
This program is currently in its initial phase, focusing on community education and building a robust network of partners.
Seeking Environmental Justice Collaborators
We are in the process of identifying and recruiting environmental justice collaborators to ensure this program is inclusive, effective, and truly representative of our community's needs. We encourage participation from:
Community Residents: Individuals who live near the park and are interested in tracking environmental conditions.
Local Organizations & Civic Clubs: Groups with an interest in community advocacy, public health, or environmental issues.
Academic Researchers/Students: Those from local universities or institutions with expertise in environmental monitoring or urban studies.
Advocacy Groups: Organizations dedicated to environmental justice and community well-being in Houston.
